In my previous blog I mentioned that I would write my next blog on the first port of call: Barcelona. I guess I forgot the day it took to get there. Barcelona may show up, but at the end of this current post, not as its focus.
The day starts at 8 a.m., showers, finishing packing, settling the house for our absence, and then sitting and waiting for our volunteer shuttle from Elizabeth Boman from church. She picks us up a couple of minutes before our 10 a.m. requested time, and we have a nice conversation on the way to the airport. Turns out she does a fair bit of airport shuttling of various family and friends — it is nice to know we are in such good hands.
11 a.m. — Sitting in the airport having just passed through security. Luggage all checked, waiting for our plane to depart at 12:26 for Atlanta. Nathan is trying out his new 3DS game he was allowed to play with once we are underway — Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity. Betsy and Carly are working on puzzle books. I think I will be taking a few pictures and then do a bit of Nook reading.
12:25 p.m. — Plane is boarding. We are in zone two waiting to be called. People stand up and line up without anything being said to board. We continue to sit. We are almost the only people still seated when someone says people in zones 1-3 can board. Zone 2 was never called.
12:30 p.m. — Plane taxis and takes off. Sun comes out, bright on takeoff, but heading into a haze as we gain cruising altitude. We might be coming out of the clouds now, or not.
3:30 p.m. — Landed at Atlanta. Got transferred from Terminal A to Terminal F via the terminal to terminal train. Found that our flight will be leaving at 6 p.m. instead of 5:30 p.m. Went to the food court and ordered The Varsity — Onion rings still as good as remembered from last summer’s drive through Atlanta.
5:34 p.m. — Got announcement that plane had arrived late from Amsterdam and the cleaning crew had just got on about 10 minutes ago. Expect to start boarding in about 30 minutes to leave at 6:30 p.m.
Side Note: Also talked to some other people to learn that there is a Disney Cruise out of Barcelona going on, so our Disney shirts that we are wearing are drawing attention of other people who think we might be taking that cruise instead of the one we are.
7:39 p.m. — Finally airborne after a two-hour delay in Atlanta. Experiencing a little bit of turbulence. Expect to get into Barcelona between 10 and 10:30 a.m. local time. Trying to figure out how to select a movie to watch.
End up watching “Oz the Great and Powerful.” Betsy enjoyed it a lot more than she expected, though “it isn’t canon,” as she notes. Only Nathan doesn’t watch Oz during the trip to Barcelona. He watches “Rise of the Guardians.”
After dinner we all try to sleep, or not. Tomorrow is going to be a long day, trying to switch 7 hours of time zones for Barcelona.
