First Grade. What do each of you remember about first grade? i don’t really remember very much. Actually I only have one story for myself, and one for my older brother.
Both of us attended the South Corning Elementary School. One day he didn’t want to stay at school and just started walking home. Home was like only 4 miles or so away. When the school missed him and my folks went searching, they found him with still about a mile to go, walking up the hill toward home.
My own story is even less exciting. Three years later, I was a member of Mrs. Ross’s first grade. I don’t remember anything at all, but apparently my parents went in for the parent teacher conference, and asked her how I was doing. Was I having any trouble learning to write, being left-handed. “Oh, is he left-handed,” was the reply.
