Saturday, May 17, 2014 Avondale United Methodist Church had a Day of Service to the community — with more than 100 (150-some) volunteers serving the community in various projects.
Betsy, Nathan and I served at a local Hillcrest House helping with landscaping work and outside cleanup. We were there with a team under the leadership of Kim Heft. We shoveled mulch under playground equipment, weeded flower beds and mulched them, raked leaves around bushes and mulched them, weeded around trees and mulched them.. a lot of mulch.
Carly helped kids make crafts at the church which will be distributed to people throughout the community.
These were just a couple of many projects going on around the community. After the projects were done for the day, we assembled at the church for dinner, and to talk and share about our various projects.
After the dinner there was a “Party in the Lot,” with live music and refreshments.
