Community update

Tonight was the third Wednesday night of the month. In Avondale that makes it the free community dinner.
Tonight was a very successful dinner. The planners had asked some of the kids that attended previous dinners what they wanted to eat, and the overwhelming opinion was pizza. So tonight was pizza. The dinner was from 5-7 p.m., and by the time we got there at 6:15 all the salad was gone, and the pizza was getting down there. At the dessert table they were running out of cake so they brought out of ice cream and ended up running out of both. But you looked around the room and saw a lot of happy kids and satisfied adults.
Tonight also happened to be the first choir rehearsal of the season for the Avondale United Methodist Church Cathedral Choir. Always good to have a good meal before you sing.

We had four new singers join the choir tonight. Some were more experienced, while others weren’t sure what voice part they were best suited for.
Since we don’t sing in service until the first Sunday in September,we had time to work on songs without the pressure of getting one ready for Sunday. One expects the group to be a little rusty after a summer of not singing together. But the choir sang so well that Aaron, our director, was able to polish some pieces, and even have us practice doing parts of one piece a capella, holding pitch and blend quite well.  I am excited about the possibility of being good enough to perform an anthem a capella.
So that is the state of the dinner, and of the choir.
