Fun entertainment, subtle messages…

There are some really good, fun shows out there for those of us interested in science fiction, Right now the family is watching (from DVD) the second season of Warehouse 13. The current episode is a crossover episode from “Eureka”, another sci-fi show.

But while there is a lot of fun to the shows, there is also a certain trend to the shows that is subtle, but pervasive when you think about it. Eureka is more obvious, but it is there in Warehouse 13.

What am I thinking about?  It is the pervasiveness of government. Warehouse 13 has the government sneaking in to protect people from weird things. Eureka is the idea that government can bring people together and become the source of all the best creativity.

The TV shows have messages that subtly support the idea that government is the solution to all our problems.

Fortunately, there are enough escapades of misfortunes and missteps.to warn us that maybe, just maybe, the government isn’t the end all and be all for our safetry and well-being.

But it is a reminder to us, in our entertainment, to beware the subtle messages…
