It seems there is always a song by Mary Lynn Lightfoot in the concert. This year the Women’s Choir sang the song.
But their first song wasn’t by Lightfoot, it was by A. Dvorak and a Traditional Shaker Hymn, arranged by J. Martin, titled The Journey. (Note, there appears to be some sort of odd loop at the beginning — enjoy the humor, twice.) Soloist were Valkyrie Lowery and Sara Weddington. The chorus had a nice round, strong sound that I wish the first soloist had shown more of. Her voice was nice, but I think a little nervous. The second soloist wasn’t nervous, but could have been a little stronger. Still, both the soloists and chorus did a sweet job on this sweet number.
The second song was by Lightfoot: Cantate Hodie!. This song was a joyous song. Sing today! lift your voices in a jubilant song. And jubilant it was.
