Wind’s Day Greenhouse Report.

Lent, Day 9

Sometimes you don’t know which element of the weather is going to be the problem.

Today it was the wind… I spent much of this past week tearing down the winter greenhouse coverings to let more of the sun back into the greenhouse for growing plants. But it isn’t spring yet, much less summer, so I had to rig an intermediate insulative covering to keep things warm during the swinging temperatures that leave cold nights between either warm or cold days.

I rigged insulation panels for the lower 4 feet of the greenhouse, and an extra layer of clear plastic for the upper layer, and held it all together with ropes encircling and criss-crossing the greenhouse exterior. But today’s winds, while not blowing the plastic away, rearranged it to be ineffective. Hours of stringing wiped out in minutes. Now I have to devise a way to put up the plastic that resists the wind and is within the limits of the resources I currently have on hand. And I have to clean up my previous attempt first to be able to try again.
