Nothing as literary and poetic as the Steinbeck story, but a story nontheless, about both mice and men here at At The Rainbow.
When you have a fire, nature has a way of moving in on you. Months ago we were seeing all sorts of things getting knocked around in the pantry, before we had power restored (means somewhere between August and December), and after finally finding money for a have-a-heart trap, landed two racoons, the one time showing up while his compatriot was still trying to figure out how to get his friend out of the thing.
We think that compatriot got the word out, because that was the last sure signs of racoons in the house.
Now mice are a different story. We have had a few bouts with mice over the years, but since the fire they seem to be more adventurous. Sign isn’t pervasive but persistent in certain spots.
So finally I ordered 6 traps for $10 from Amazon, and set them out yesterday morning. Today, as I write, The total bagged is 5 mice. two traps have scored two each, one trap has scored one, and three traps have caught none.
It has been a long time since I have had such a specatular return on an investment. Hopefully it continues until suddenly there are none FOR A LONG TIME.
And so the hunt will continue, like any other trapper I place my traps, come back at regular intervals, bag what I caught, and reset.
(IF only the mice were as cute as the AI made them in the featured image!)
