Creational and relational type Renaissance man (writer, singer, thinker) holding to C.S Lewis's credo that if you follow truth originality takes care of itself, (anyway, originality is so yesterday, anyway.) That I have my wonderful wife Jasini is proof enough for me that life isn't fair. If it was fair I wouldn't have her, and instead she is my most faithful example that I am blessed beyond measure. My two adult children are the same unmerited blessing to me. We should all be thankful life is not fair but blessed.

A Blast of the Past #33: First House

In a previous blast I talked about our first house -- but it was a rental. This post is about our first house that we owned (with the bank, of course). It will be 16 years in March that we moved to that first house. It was an exciting time, and we really enjoyed that house … Continue reading A Blast of the Past #33: First House →

Commuter cycling: not just a fairweather venture

So far this year I've managed to commute to work via bicycle with no assistance from the metro bus system. People constantly ask me if I rode the bicycle in today, as if there is always an alternative. And while I could choose other transport, they never consider that there are some people for whom … Continue reading Commuter cycling: not just a fairweather venture →

Chorus "Jesus" -- O how sweet the name, "Jesus" -- Ev'ry day … Continue reading #64: The Name of Jesus →

Ground Hog Day

Well, today was always an important day in my family. Back in 1895, surrounded by a snow bank, my paternal grandmother was born. Or so my grandmother explained the day of her birth. I'm not sure what the ground hog said about the day. But it was always a special day in our family. And … Continue reading Ground Hog Day →

Fitness Update: On Track Through January

Today starts February, so I can log my fitness progress for January. One month already done for 2016. Last week I had a really exciting fitness moment on Thursday: I finally got all the settings correct on my Misfit Shine for my morning swim session. It told me I swam 42 laps for 1,050 yards. … Continue reading Fitness Update: On Track Through January →

#63: Take the Name of Jesus with You

Vulcan’s Kittens: Fast, fun read

That is, if you start reading it and can't put it down. Per her own explanation, the start of this book was in 2011, when Cedar Sanderson wrote the start of the story to her daughter at summer camp in short installments. That fall her daughter, who heard of National novel Writing Month, encouraged her … Continue reading Vulcan’s Kittens: Fast, fun read →

A Blast of the Past #32: Third Birthday

And now a return to a series of posts that has been on hiatus for several months: reviewing the family photo archives for interesting observations of the past. Today we arrive at my daughter's 3rd birthday. By this stage between her and the cousins we had a pack of three kids with accompanying parents and … Continue reading A Blast of the Past #32: Third Birthday →

Changes at the bicycle shop

I dropped my bicycle off yesterday at River Market Cyclery to have the break pads replaced. The service was good, but the feel of the place has been different of late than it was before. During the winter time the shop closes on Mondays and Tuesdays, since business is generally slow. But before the winter, … Continue reading Changes at the bicycle shop →

#62: Crown Him with Many Crowns

(Part of a series singing through the hymnbook I grew up with: Great Hymns of the Faith) 1 Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne: Hark! how the heav'nly anthem drowns All music but its own! Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who die for thee, And hail Him as thy … Continue reading #62: Crown Him with Many Crowns →
