Saturday afternoon/evening we celebrated the sweet 16th birthday of Lina Witulski at the home of her exchange student parents in Kearney.
Lina has been living with the Gillespies this past year while their daughter Sofia has been an exchange student in Latvia.
Lina’s birthday was actually Thursday, May 1 – May Day — but the party was scheduled for the evening of Saturday, May 3.
I happen to share the same birthday as Lina, only off a few years. It was a unique surprise to learn we had the same birthday.
The weather was perfect for celebrating outside. The downstairs patio was decorated with lights and bunting, and a nice buffet including German chocolates sent to Lina by her parents was set up inside.
Nathan and Isaac had a fun time playing Bocce, followed by constructing paper airplanes . Gracie put her dog nose into everyone’s face as allowed.
Lina had a fun time with many of her American friends from the past year, and we had fun presenting her with varied and interesting birthday presents.
As the evening wore on, they started a fire for s’mores and hotdogs, and later a bonfire.

Has lina finished her exchange year or is she still with you?
