Regular readers of my blog might remember my prior posts decrying the demise of Disney’s Toontown Online. Well, enough creative people wanted Toontown around to create ToontownRewritten — a free version of the game rewritten by fans of the game.
It is currently in semi-open beta testing — players are allowed to create an account and sign up for a play time. You either schedule a time and get a three-hour block, or put yourself in “line” and get to play when the line drifts down.
Nathan signed up for a block today — 5 to 8 p.m. — and took him about 1 hour 45 minutes to get fully logged in and set up before he could play. After that it was usual Toontown fun, starting with new teams.
When Nathan got done with his first play he went in to sign up for another segment. The segments are listed for the next week ahead, but almost no slots are left, unless it is 1 a.m. at night. So he decided to step into line and see how that worked. About 120 hours.
I was looking at the slots as well, so decided to try the line. Only took me 30 minutes after Nathan stepped in line — but I got a 129 hour wait. That was about 2 hours ago, and the wait line is down to 106 hours. So people keep dropping out of the wait.
The problem with the line is my slot could come up during the work day — there is just no way to know. And you have to keep your computer on and connected to stay in the line. 108 hours is a long time to wait. So I probably won’t make it — unless a lot more people drop a lot faster, and they do so at a time that lets me take advantage of my slot instead of being at work, or church, or some such.
