When you ride a bicycle you are much more aware of the weather and the road than when you are in a motor vehicle. I am not certain how a motorcyclist recognizes the weather, but while riding my bicycle i can tell the resistance from the wind. It has a major impact on the amount of effort and the speed I am able to make.
I also notice the slope of the road and any potholes and irregularities more on a bicycle than in a car. There have been places that the eye would tell me are downhill or uphill slopes that the bicycle would show to actually be the opposite.
I mention all of this just to say that week has been a significant change in my biking performance. I seem to be achieving a steady 20 mph on the flat stretches through Northtown, even in the face of some winds. My usual is 15 mph.  And I have been getting several 25 MPH stretches.  What is the difference?

Last Friday I had an intense toning workout with Jesse Samborski, and on Saturday morning was feeling it in my calves. They are better, my quads have this having been put-upon sense, but my quads (and other muscles) also seem to be putting out more energy, more speed really. I am trying to decide if there are any other factors I should be accounting for, but right now it seems to be the workout that had the results.  How long it will last, and what I need to do to keep it, is the question.
