With a smile and a song …

Today’s post is a video post featuring the choral music program of North Kansas City High School, under the direction of Mr. Michael Shirley.

I won’t input a link to the senior rose ceremony, which began the evening. Instead, I’ll begin with the first musical selection of the evening: “Sing Me to Heaven” by the select senior chorus (Brandon Day, Vinh Em, Joshua Kelly, Braxton Medellin, Natalea Bonjour, Katie Carney, Haley DeVries, Aubire Evans

That special senior number was followed by the A Cappella Choir doing “Laetatus Sum” by J.M. Haydn/ed. Stein

The second number by A Cappella was something actually in English: “You are the Music” by Dan Forrest. Katie Carney played French Horn with soloists Joshua Kelley and Natalea Bonjour.

A Cappella did it’s final number “Dies Irae”, an original number by R. Main, with the smaller Chamber Choir:

Men’s choir was next in the concert order. They had two numbers, “Carry on Wayward Son” by K. Livgren, arr. R. Emerson, with soloist Usa Kim; and “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by V. Gill with Soloists Desmond Edwards and Rainbow Htoo.

For this concert the Harmonaires men and Women had individual numbers. The Men did “Two by Two” from the Broadway Musical “Book of Mormon.” The Girls did “Cell Block Tango” from the Broadway Musical “Chicago”. Please note the tie-in between the two numbers…

The Women’s Chorus did a medley called “Adelle: Songs from the Album” arr. by M. Huff with soloists Jordan Donley and Da’Auntay Jackson.

It was a night for musical numbers. The Freshman Choir did a medley from “Lion King: The Broadway Musical” arr. by My Brymer. Soloists were Ragan Bowers, Sophia Mesa and Debora Paez.

Treble Choir went a little bit country with “All American Girls: A Medley of Carrie Underwood Hits.” Soloists included Katherine Little, Amber Mynatt, Alexis Neeley, Briana Alves, Coraline Brown, Abby Peterson, Tatiana Garcia, with slide show by Abby Peterson & Madison Bush.

Then it was back to Broadway, with a “Newsies” medley by the Harmonaires, music by A. Menken and J. Feldman, arr by R. Emerson. Soloists were: Tyler White, arolyn KLamm, Tyler Rickerson, Bayly Hobdy, Carolyn Klamm, Baylee Buechel, Jasmine Bomar, Jordan Hurst, Jake Reynolds, Tyler White.

The final Harmonaires number was the standard reunion number, “Every Day I’ve Got to Sing Some” where former Harmonaires come up and join in, showing they still remember the moves.

The concert ended with two mass numbers: “You Raise Me Up” by B. Graham/R. Lovland arr. by R. Emerson. and then the “NKCHS Alma Mater.”
