“All Things Come Alike to All …”

I am a cantankerous, obstinate, disagreeable, old man. All my life long I have tried my best to get along with everyone, while being unwilling merely to go along with whatever is going on. If something doesn’t seem right, doesn’t seem to line up with the truth, I am obstinate about allowing it to pass, and disagreeable enough to point it out. I will let you decide where the cantankerous comes from.

Today I am struggling with the assertion by some that it is our (Jasini and I) bad decisions that have led to where we are. Yea, verily, that decisions that we have made doomed us to have our house burned down by an arsonist while we were uninsured. This logic totally removes any responsibility on the part of the arsonist. While I might, tentatively, for argument’s sake, allow that decisions on our part might have contributed to what happened, to assert such a simple cause/effect that depends only upon our actions o he results that happened to us brings out the cantankerous and obstinate, not to say the disagreeable sides of my nature. And you don’t want all three of them aimed at you — and remember, your actions, and your actions only, are why you will be feeling the heat from their laser focused aimed at your feet!

Every one of the “friends” that has dissed me and abandoned us over the past 6 years has always made the same statement: you are solely to blame for what has happened to you. None of them were ever responsible for their breaking their word, for their failure to pay, for assaulting me with a metal rod. For all those things I was responsible. While I am logical enough to agree that my actions doubtless may have had some input into what happened, I disagree with logic is everything that happened to us is our fault and we deserved it.

To find another way,, life is not fair, and that in two ways: it would be a life of despair to believe that everything bad that happened to us we deserved. I’m glad that life is not fair and that all the bad things are going to happen to us because we deserve them. On the flip side I’m glad that life is not fair because of all the blessings that we receive. If we had to earn them it would be a daunting, discouraging and demoralizing attempt.

Not all things are good but all things can work together for good goes along with the I am thankful that life is not fair mantra.

So let’s remember to do justly and to love Mercy and to walk humbly.
