Creational and relational type Renaissance man (writer, singer, thinker) holding to C.S Lewis's credo that if you follow truth originality takes care of itself, (anyway, originality is so yesterday, anyway.) That I have my wonderful wife Jasini is proof enough for me that life isn't fair. If it was fair I wouldn't have her, and instead she is my most faithful example that I am blessed beyond measure. My two adult children are the same unmerited blessing to me. We should all be thankful life is not fair but blessed.

#110: Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed?

(Part of a series singing through the hymnbook I grew up with: Great Hymns of the Faith) When I started typing the words to this song, I was expecting a different tune. But that is because I was thinking of At the Cross (#129) which has a chorus added to these words. 1 Alas! and … Continue reading #110: Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed? →

Ordain –A word study

I was, for whatever reason, singing the Preamble song from Schoolhouse Rock earlier this weak, when my mind pinged on the word Ordain in the Preamble. I had never noticed it before, and I started wondering why the word was used, and what it meant in that context.  See the Preamble below: We the People … Continue reading Ordain –A word study →

A Blast of the Past #57: Around the Christmas Tree

Today's blast of the past comes from 2004. Included are shots of Carolers of Note singing in the lobby at the State Street Towers in Downtown Kansas City, shots of trees in our house, and shots of trees in school classrooms.

One final Beauty and the Beast before vaulting

It is a pleasure to be able to write a very good review, for a change, of our experience at a Starlight Theatre Broadway show. A good evening is our usual expectation, based on attending the Broadway shows since 1997. But Tuesday night's presentation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast was the first time this … Continue reading One final Beauty and the Beast before vaulting →

#109: Ride On! Ride On in Majesty!

(Part of a series singing through the hymnbook I grew up with: Great Hymns of the Faith) This is a hymn I don't even remember singing. Does anyone reading this and listening recognize this song. It is actually quite a good one. 1 Ride on" ride on in majesty! Hark! all the tribes hosanna cry; … Continue reading #109: Ride On! Ride On in Majesty! →

Fitness update: summer workout vacation

Note the headline.  That isn't summer vacation, but a vacation from a workout schedule in the summer. Didn't do much this past week. No swimming laps, just floating around Oceans of Fun pools. Did two 5Ks, which was probably the highlight of the workout for the week. For the bicycle there was 58 miles, most … Continue reading Fitness update: summer workout vacation →

#108: All Glory, Laud and Honor

(Part of a series singing through the hymnbook I grew up with: Great Hymns of the Faith) 1 All glory, laud and honor To Thee, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring: Thou art the King of Israel, Thou David's royal Son, Who in the Lord's name comest, The King … Continue reading #108: All Glory, Laud and Honor →

Mini Camp Weekend

When the equipment for the mini camp weekend was setting up Friday night at Avondale United Methodist Church it grabbed a lot of attention from the neighborhood. A lot of kids and parents came by to ask what was up.

A Blast of the Past #56: Open House

One year after we moved into our current house we hosted an open house. Since that was in mid-November, it is also group with some Christmas tree photos. We spent a bit of time creating a banner for the open house -- one that is still in storage upstairs in the house.
